Brochure

The British Animation Awards (BAA) celebrates all that is great about the animation industry in the UK, from student projects to major commercial productions. In 2022, the awards were sponsored by Hanna-Barbera, the iconic animation studio owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, that is also known for its UK-based team behind acclaimed shows like The Amazing World of Gumball and The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe. To honour the legacy of traditional 2D animation, a hallmark of Hanna-Barbera and many studios of that era, the brochure design paid tribute to this classic technique.

The process began with sketching new characters from recent productions to integrate them into the animation timeline. Since the original assets had been lost over time, leaving only a low-res photo from a comic as reference, I recreated and vectorised the artwork to prepare it for print. All elements were then arranged in Adobe Illustrator and brought into Photoshop, where the final background was created.

Quads & Banners

14 quads, double quads and banners were created for the event to be showcased around the BFI Southbank theatre. A Fish & Chip Van was also designed. Complete with a custom menu board and even a printed storyboard from The Amazing World of Gumball for the fish and chips paper wrapper.

Illustration

Taking inspiration from old comic covers of Hanna-Barbera, an illustration was created to have a mix of new characters and old, celebrating the studio’s work. A proposal was mocked up within photoshop before being vectorised in Adobe Illustrator.
