Black Britain Unspoken

Served as Lead Designer within Discovery’s Unscripted Team, responsible for developing the branding and all creative assets for Season 3 of Black Britain Unspoken.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Photoshop & Illustrator
Company: Discovery+, Warner Brothers Discovery

Black Britain Unspoken is a programme focused on highlighting emerging talent and amplifying underrepresented voices from Black British communities.

For this season’s initial creative direction, the marketing team wanted to retain the UK flag motif from previous campaigns, while drawing inspiration from AfriCOBRA, a bold, culturally grounded art movement founded in 1968 by a collective of Black artists who used vibrant visuals to promote pride, unity, and empowerment.

All proposal assets were designed in Adobe Illustrator and assembled in Photoshop for presentation.

Social

Social assets were developed to support the audition phase for aspiring directors. Once the directors for Season 3 were selected, a follow-up campaign was launched to promote their films and highlight the participants.

Audition Promo

A promotional video was created for social media and Discovery’s UK channels, inviting aspiring directors to apply to have their stories brought to life. This visual style was also adapted to design graphics for the Spotlight Interview series featuring the selected directors.

Films

Once the selected directors were on board, I collaborated closely with each of them to bring their film visions to life. Key art and opening sequences were created for all three films, using the established campaign visuals to maintain synergy.

Dancing on Road

Director: Lauren Gee

Dancing on Road documents and celebrates the Black British female roller-skating community, showcasing its long history and fixture within popular culture.

Blurring the boundaries between documentary and music video, this experimental film reveals the expansive network of London’s Black skate scene through two key individuals that share their stories and delve into what this space and their skate crews and mentors provide them.

Mandem

Director: Joladé Olusanya

"mandem" is a poetic documentary that explores the deeper meaning of 'mandem' beyond its stereotypes. Inspired by the late poet and friend Gboyega Odubanjo, the film delves into the significance of the term within the Black British collective through conversation and a poem written by director Joladé Olusanya.

Set in a traditional English lecture room, it challenges Western perceptions and highlights the diversity of 'mandem' through personal stories across gender, belief systems, and professions.
